Healthcare in the old Southern Cameroons and former West Cameroon was free, professionally delivered and accessible. It was not the most sophisticated healthcare system, but government considered healthcare as a human right, and made sure it was professionally delivered in clean facilities. Today, in 2007, the whole system has broken down, and it is the wild west now, where quacks abound, surgical infections are common and patients have to buy their own sutures. That is a mild description. For the vast majority of people, there is no health care at all. Upon the restoration of the Southern Cameroons, it would be unrealistic to expect the government to suddenly start providing universal health care. Therefore, we need to examine innnovative appoaches for healthcare delivery. We should borrow profusely from other places in the world that have used alternative approaches to healthcare delivery. This site will then serve as a resource base for our future healthcare planners and healthcare entrepreneurs. Examples:
